DIGICHer (Digitisation of the cultural heritage of minority communities for equity and renewed engagement) will develop a practical, user-focused framework to promote equity, inclusion and diversity in the digital representation of cultural heritage. Co-created with representatives from three minority groups—the Sámi, the Jewish people, and the Ladin people—the framework will reflect their perspectives and priorities. It will integrate methods such as design thinking and legal design to ensure relevance, usability and impact.
The framework will consider the legal, political, socio-economic and technological dimensions of cultural heritage digitisation, ensuring a holistic and inclusive approach. By placing minority communities at the centre of the process, the project aims to challenge underrepresentation and foster more equitable access to cultural content.
Based on this work, DIGICHer will produce evidence-based policy recommendations targeted at cultural institutions and decision-makers. These will support more inclusive digitisation strategies, ensuring that efforts to preserve and share cultural heritage reflect Europe’s full diversity.
