XRCulture aims to use innovative technologies to boost the availability of high-quality 3D and XR content in the data space. Targeting diverse use cases—such as preservation education and tourism—the project will harness advanced AI tools for 3D model generation and improvement.
The 3D models generated by the project will serve as a foundation for developing XR applications in different contexts, including museum collections, heritage at risk and lost heritage reconstruction. By showcasing practical reuse scenarios, XRCulture will encourage the adoption of 3D technologies by businesses, researchers, public administrations and citizens.
The project will also develop an open framework for web-based 3D visualisation and model management through a user-friendly platform. This will enable cultural heritage institutions to access reliable, accessible tools for digitisation, visualisation and storage of 3D assets.
XRCulture will promote best practices and support capacity-building efforts to ensure adoption of these technologies across the cultural heritage sector, accelerating the digital transformation of cultural heritage institutions and strengthening their ability to engage with innovative technologies.
Project goals
- Use AI tools to generate new, high-quality 3D models and to improve the quality of existing 3D models.
- Create an open framework for 3D web visualisation to support cultural heritage institutions in accessing and managing 3D models.
- Deploy XR applications in tourism, education, and preservation scenarios focusing on museum collections, heritage at risk, and lost heritage.
- Enhance institutions' capabilities through training programs, sharing resources, adapting to new digital frameworks, enhancing digital literacy, promoting best practices and integrating 3D and XR technologies into education.
- Foster integration with other projects to ensure compatibility with the data space and other European cultural heritage initiatives.
